A ship with a strong anchor is a stable ship that is able to withstand the waves. A tree firmly rooted and grounded is a stable tree that is able to face the storm. Similarly, a Christian who is firmly grounded and anchored in the faith is a stable Christian who is able to stand firm in all circumstances. He or she is not tossed to and fro by whatever may come. The stable Christian is like the man who built his house on the rock. When a flood arose and the stream broke against the house, it could not be shaken because it was firmly grounded.

Unfortunately, many Christians today are unstable in the faith they claim to believe in. Their feet are not firmly grounded in the essential doctrines of the Christian Faith. Therefore, when the wind and the storm come, they shudder. Yet the Apostle Paul urged the Colossians, and by extension to us, to be “rooted and built up” in Christ and be “established in the faith” (Col 2:7). The Apostle Peter called Christians to always be prepared to make a defence for the faith (1 Peter 3:15). How can we, therefore, be established in the faith and give a defence for the faith if we do not firstly know the faith?

This is what the “Foundations of the Faith” course is all about. The overall aim of this course is to equip Christians with a deep understanding of the fundamental doctrines of Christian faith. It covers questions such as “How do we know the Bible is the Word of God?”, “What exactly is the Trinity?”, “What does it really mean to be Born-Again?” and “What are Spiritual Gifts?” Along with these, there are also practical questions related to the Christian life, for example concerning prayer, evangelism, and understanding God’s will.

Just as the Church is built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets, the Christian must have his faith built upon the truth revealed in the Word of God. Just as the reformer Martin Luther had his feet firmly grounded in truth, and had his conscience captive to the Word of God, so too must we as the storm gathers.

By God's grace, this Foundations of Faith course will equip and establish you in the faith and prepare you to give a defence for the faith that is in you. So, come along and be equipped, established and prepared.

Foundations of Faith will start on Sunday’s at 2:00pm on 12th November 2017. Contact John for more details at john@gracelifelondon.org.

The Importance of Song as Part of Worship

In the church I grew up in, “worship” was what we called the transition from upbeat, fast-tempo songs to more soothing, slower songs, ... but that wasn’t really an accurate understanding of worship! Worship goes far beyond music.
